3 DAYS CYCLING TOUR MOSHI, KIBOSHO UMBWE AND KIRIMA MACHAME MASAMA

Tour Overview

Day 1

Begin through the centre of Moshi through Shanty Town, an upmarket residential suburb  If the weather is clear you will have most magnificent view of Kilimanjaro. Continue to Kwachange village, known for finger millet, used in making local brew and porridge.  Cross the beautiful Change River, famous for blue monkeys.  Then arrive at kirima village that is very famous for local brew, before crossing the Isie River, leading to a former German  owned coffee estate and enjoy a quick history of the past.

Meandering past streams and a thorny area you will have excellent views of Kilimanjaro. Along this route pass by river Umbwe towards North East to Kindi village, After crossing Kindi valley to cross the wooden bridge of the Sere river. You will then find a small rural shopping centre. Here on Tuesday & Friday there is a local market and a chance of seeing and interacting with local people. Next cross Narumu stream, a steep hill to Mfoni village then a big downhill section to cross Weruweru River to Machame Village. This is a lively village along the tarmac road which leads to Machame Gate, one of the main starting points to climb Kilimanjaro. Here you will overnight after a day of passing banana and coffee farms and cycling 31 Kilometres in 4-5 hours.

Day 2

Cross farms growing banana, coffee and tomatoes along a meandering path to a beautiful water fall which is about 50 meters high, which descends from the Makoa. River,   meeting the larger Kikavu River further down the mountain. Both rivers are an important water source for local people and are used extensively for agriculture. From the water fall continue biking past Mshara Village to an excellent vantage point and enjoy the breathtaking views of two main peaks of Kilimanjaro, Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. There is also the opportunity to visit Kwansangare Primary school, which was started by the first missionary John Rehbman  located by River Makoa. Continue along the river till you reach the tarmac road, crossing through banana and coffee farms, streams and local village houses to reach Uswaa village where you will overnight. This day will be somehow easy because the terrain seems to be a little bit flat compared to day one. There is 20 kilometres to cover which may take 3-4 hours with some extra time being spent for stops.

Day 3

An easy day of downhill cycling, crossing streams and rivers from Kilimanjaro

mountain, visiting German ruins and taking in the last sights and sounds of nature and life of this beautiful mountain, and also you will visit Kibohehe Coffee estate and also there is a tortoise which leaves more than 200 years. Gradually you will descend until you reach the main road between Moshi and Arusha, where a vehicle will be waiting to return you and your bikes to Moshi. This may take 3-4 hours with stops on route. Distance 12 kilometers. Please note that overnight accommodations before and after the tour are at your own expense, but we are more than happy to assist you with booking lodges, hotels, or other accommodations to ensure a comfortable stay.
